SWISS to retire Airbus A220-100 fleet by end of 2027

Swiss International Air Lines, a member of the Lufthansa Group, announced it will permanently retire its Airbus A220-100 aircraft. Of the nine A220-100s originally operated, four remain in service, three are already stored and two are being dismantled for spare parts, especially Pratt & Whitney PW1500G engines, to support the airline’s 21 Airbus A220-300 aircraft.

The airline says the move will boost the availability and operational reliability of the larger A220-300 fleet and that it plans to operate without the A220-100 in the medium and long term. Swiss was the launch operator of the A220 (then Bombardier CS100) in 2016, and the retirement marks the end of service for the smallest member of the family. In the same presentation, Lufthansa Group confirmed it will sell its remaining Bombardier CRJ‑900 fleet, ending its use of 90‑seat regional jets.
