Swiss woman dies in Lake Lugano drowning

A 52-year-old Swiss woman has died after being found unconscious near the shore of Lake Lugano in Melide. Passersby discovered her on Tuesday afternoon and attempted to provide aid, but emergency responders from the Lugano Green Cross were unable to revive her.

Investigations have identified the deceased as a resident of the Lugano region. She had recently gained public attention for posting Instagram recordings of phone calls with State Councillor Claudio Zali. These recordings contained allegations of violence that contributed to Zali's resignation in late September.

While the official cause of death is currently being treated as drowning, authorities are not ruling out other possibilities and are awaiting autopsy results. Investigators noted that the woman had recently filed a complaint alleging she was a victim of threats and assault approximately ten days prior. Electronic devices may also be examined to clarify the circumstances surrounding her death.
