Swissmechanic approves merger with Swissmem

The delegates of the Swiss industrial association Swissmechanic have issued a fundamental approval for a planned merger with Swissmem. This decision aims to create a unified association representing the entirety of the Swiss technology industry, encompassing the mechanical, electrical, and metal sectors.

The merger is intended to expand service offerings, increase political influence, and strengthen Switzerland's position as an industrial hub. Swissmechanic President Nicola R. Tettamanti stated that pooling resources will allow the organization to represent member interests with greater weight in a challenging international environment.

The next step involves a decision from Swissmem, which is expected to be announced following an extraordinary general meeting. If both associations proceed, a definitive decision is targeted for June 2027, with the merger potentially taking effect retroactively to January 1, 2027.
