SWIT-DREAMS project launches to develop AI-driven biopharmaceuticals
The SWIT-DREAMS project (Swiss–Italian Drug Research using AI for Molecules and Structures) has officially launched. This cross-border initiative aims to create an integrated platform for the rational development of antibodies and bioconjugates using artificial intelligence.
Funded by the European Interreg Italy-Switzerland program with a budget of 1.37 million euros, the 30-month project seeks to unify fragmented biomedical research capabilities between Italy and Switzerland. The initiative focuses on the rapidly expanding biological drugs market, which includes antibodies, nanobodies, and antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs). This market is currently valued at approximately 256 billion euros and is projected to reach 852 billion euros by 2035.
The project integrates four key areas: antibody screening, structural biology and medicinal chemistry, AI-driven molecular design, and scientific communication. The consortium includes high-level research entities such as the Università del Piemonte Orientale (UPO), which serves as the Italian lead.
