Switzerland coach Murat Yakin ill ahead of World Cup game vs Bosnia

Switzerland national team manager Murat Yakin, 51, reported feeling unwell on the eve of the team's second Group E match at the FIFA World Cup against Bosnia and Herzegovina. At a media briefing he appeared exhausted and admitted he had barely slept the night before. The illness, described as a heavy flu, follows earlier health concerns for the Swiss side, notably during the 2022 Qatar tournament when climate‑controlled stadiums contributed to a wave of colds that sidelined players such as goalkeeper Yann Sommer, defender Nico Elvedi and later midfielder Silvan Widmer.

Yakin previously fell ill after a scouting trip to California and has jokingly remarked about appointing a “climate‑control minister” within the coaching staff. Despite his current condition, the Swiss Football Association confirmed that preparations for the Bosnia match will continue, with the coach hoping to recover quickly.
