Switzerland defeats Scotland 3-0 at Hampden Park

Switzerland secured a 3-0 victory over Scotland at Hampden Park during Sebastien Pocognoli’s first match as head coach. The match was heavily influenced by an 11th-minute red card shown to Scotland defender Jack Hendry for denying a goalscoring opportunity. Following a VAR review, the initial penalty was downgraded to a free-kick, which Ricardo Rodriguez converted to open the scoring.

Switzerland extended their lead through Nico Elvedi and a Zeki Amdouni strike that passed through the arms of goalkeeper Angus Gunn. Pundits and former players criticized Gunn’s performance, specifically regarding the third goal.

Scotland forward Kierron Bowie, who had recently performed well in a win against North Macedonia, saw his first international start cut short after only 13 minutes due to Hendry’s dismissal. Despite the loss, Bowie noted that the team is working through a tactical transition under Pocognoli’s new system.
