Switzerland employment rises as Swiss AI launches job platform

Employment in Switzerland continued to rise in the second quarter of 2026. According to the Federal Statistical Office, the number of employees grew by 2.0 percent year-on-year to 5.698 million, representing a seasonally adjusted increase of 0.5 percent compared to the previous quarter. The service sector remained the primary driver of growth, increasing by 2.2 percent to 4.550 million employees, while the industrial and construction sectors also saw a 1.2 percent rise to 1.148 million.

Vacancies also increased, with 98,700 open positions reported. The overall job vacancy rate stood at 1.7 percent. Despite the growth, companies reported increasing difficulty in recruiting qualified personnel, with 33.9 percent noting a deterioration in the hiring situation.

In the technology sector, the Swiss AI association has launched a new specialized job platform to connect professionals with artificial intelligence roles. The platform currently lists 133 vacancies, with employers including Nvidia and the Canton of Basel-Stadt. The initiative aims to centralize AI-related job opportunities in Switzerland and support the community through networking and education.
