Switzerland expands regional food access through markets and farm shops
Regional food initiatives are expanding in Switzerland. In Oberwil, the weekly market held at the community square has seen positive results since its launch in April 2026. The market features six regular producers offering fresh, regional goods such as bread, organic vegetables, sausages, and flowers. Following feedback from the public, the market's operating hours were extended until 1:00 PM to allow more time for shopping.
In Glarus, the 'Farm Shop in the City' project is centralizing regional products within the Markthalle. Launched by the Genossenschaft Alte Post and VISIT Glarus, the initiative aims to provide easy access to Glarnerland's diverse agricultural offerings, including dairy, meat, fish, honey, beer, and oils. The shop operates seven days a week, serving as a hub for local producers such as Frybergerhof, Güetli-Hof, and various local breweries and mills.
