Switzerland fuel prices reach record highs amid geopolitical tensions

Fuel prices in Switzerland have reached significant levels, with diesel hitting a record high of approximately CHF 2.46 per liter and unleaded 95 gasoline priced at around CHF 2.14. These high costs are attributed to geopolitical tensions involving Iran.

While Switzerland remains one of the more expensive countries for fuel in Europe, comparisons show that several popular holiday destinations offer lower prices. For instance, Denmark is noted as one of the most expensive, but countries like Spain and Portugal provide tax relief that lowers costs for drivers. In Spain, diesel receives a 20-cent tax discount per liter, while Portugal offers even greater reductions.

For travelers, it may be more economical to refuel after crossing the border into neighboring countries. Total driving costs in Switzerland, including maintenance, service, and tires, are estimated to be between CHF 25 and CHF 30 per 100 km.
