The average gender pay gap in Switzerland decreased to 15.7 percent in 2024, down from 16.2 percent in 2022, according to the Swiss Wage Structure Survey 2024.
After accounting for observable characteristics such as education, professional position, and industry, an unexplained wage gap of 6.5 percent remained, averaging 640 Swiss francs gross per month. In the private sector, the total gap was 17.2 percent with an unexplained portion of 6.7 percent, while the public sector saw a lower gap of 12.8 percent with an unexplained portion of 5.9 percent.
The Swiss Federal Statistical Office noted that the unexplained portion should not be viewed as a direct quantitative measure of wage discrimination, as the data may not capture all wage-relevant characteristics.
