Switzerland graduate unemployment rises between 2023 and 2025

Unemployment rates among higher education graduates in Switzerland have risen significantly between 2023 and 2025, according to data from the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).

One year after graduation, the unemployment rate for university master’s degree holders increased from 3.9% to 6.4%. Similarly, bachelor’s degree holders from universities of applied sciences saw their unemployment rate rise from 3.4% to 4.9%. In contrast, graduates from teacher-training universities maintained a low unemployment rate of 0.7%.

Previously stable sectors have also seen increases in unemployment. Among master’s degree holders, the rate rose from 2.1% to 4.8% in engineering and from 3.5% to 8.5% in economics and business. The highest unemployment was recorded among bachelor’s graduates in music, performing arts, and other arts at 10.8%, while the lowest was found among master’s graduates in medicine and pharmacy at 1.6%.
