Switzerland implements new regional and federal regulations
Starting September 1, several new regulations and organizational changes will take effect across various Swiss cantons and federal institutions.
In Basel-Stadt, a new wage package for cantonal administration employees is being implemented. The package, valued at approximately 22.3 million Swiss francs, includes 4.3 million in one-time costs and an estimated 18 million in annual additional costs. Measures include higher starting salaries for certain levels and a 25 percent increase in compensation for night work, Sunday work, holidays, and on-call duties. A full cost-of-living adjustment for all pay grades is planned for January 1, 2027.
The Swiss Federal Prosecutor's Office is introducing a new regulation regarding its organization and administration to increase efficiency and strengthen specialization in areas such as cybercrime and cryptocurrency-related offenses.
In the canton of Bern, a revised cantonal data protection law will come into force, leading to more centralized data protection supervision. Meanwhile, in the canton of Schwyz, new internal rules will strictly prohibit employees from bringing dogs into cantonal administration offices, with the exception of official service dogs.
