Switzerland implements new transparency register and startup labor rules

Switzerland has introduced significant regulatory changes affecting corporate transparency and labor laws. As of October 1, 2026, the Federal Act on the Transparency of Legal Entities and the Identification of Beneficial Owners (TJPG) has come into force. This law establishes a central, non-public register of beneficial owners for Swiss and certain foreign legal entities, managed by the Federal Office of Justice. The measure aims to protect the Swiss financial center from money laundering and terrorism financing by aligning with Financial Action Task Force (FATF) recommendations.

In a separate regulatory move, the Swiss Federal Council has approved new labor provisions specifically for startups, effective December 1, 2026. These amendments to the Labor Act allow for more flexible working models to meet the operational demands of high-growth companies. Under these rules, the daily working span can be extended to 17 hours, and daily rest periods may be reduced to 9 hours several times a week, provided a four-week average of 11 hours is maintained. Financial protections, such as mandatory surcharges for night and Sunday work, remain in effect.
