The low inflation rate has set the stage for contentious wage negotiations for 2027. The trade-union federation Travail. Suisse is demanding an average 2% pay rise, with specific calls for 5-6% increases in the healthcare sector to combat eroded purchasing power. Conversely, the Swiss Employers’ Association argues that a 1% increase is more realistic given weak economic growth and geopolitical uncertainty.

While headline inflation is subdued, experts note that rising energy costs and health-insurance premiums—which are not included in the standard consumer-price index—continue to impact household finances.
