Switzerland launches national burglary prevention campaign
The Swiss Crime Prevention (SKP) and police forces have launched a national campaign titled “Einbruch in Sicht?” (Burglary in Sight?) to combat residential thefts. Running from October 26, 2026, to February 28, 2027, the initiative focuses on the increased risk of burglaries during early twilight hours.
Police are urging citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, such as unknown individuals behaving oddly, vehicles driving slowly through residential areas, or unusual noises, by calling the emergency number 117. Participating police corps include Luzern, Schwyz, Nidwalden, Uri, Obwalden, and Zug.
Prevention measures recommended by authorities include locking doors and windows, ensuring absences are not obvious to outsiders, and organizing neighborhood watch efforts. Police corps are also offering free, individual consultations on burglary protection.
