Switzerland national team shifts focus to Nations League
Swiss national team coach Murat Yakin has signaled a shift in approach toward the UEFA Nations League, stating that the competition will no longer be treated as a series of glorified friendly matches. Previously, Yakin utilized the tournament for tactical and personnel experimentation, even during the team's relegation from League A. However, he now emphasizes the tournament's importance, noting its role in providing pathways to European Championship playoffs.
The squad announcement also highlights a personal milestone for childhood friends Winsley Boteli and Johan Manzambi. Both 20-year-old players from Geneva, who were trained at Servette, have been called up to the A-national team together for the first time. Boteli, a striker for FC Sion, has earned his place following a strong performance of twelve goals and five assists in 14 competitive matches. Manzambi, who has played for Aston Villa, returns to the squad following a knee injury sustained during the World Cup.
