Switzerland offers diplomatic mediation to Iran in New York

Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis met with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in New York during the United Nations General Assembly to discuss the geopolitical balance in the Middle East. Cassis expressed Switzerland’s readiness to offer its “good offices” to facilitate negotiations and prevent further escalation of regional conflicts.

Cassis noted that while Switzerland can act as a communication channel and initiate dialogue, the country lacks the political and military power held by the United States to compel parties toward compromise. He emphasized that the stability of the Middle East is directly linked to Swiss stability and highlighted the necessity of the United States' involvement in major global conflicts, including those in the Gulf region and the war in Ukraine.
