Switzerland opens Excellence Scholarship applications for 2027/2028

The Swiss Embassy in Algiers has announced the opening of applications for the Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships for the 2027/2028 academic year. The program, managed by the Federal Commission for Scholarships for Foreign Students (CFBE/ESKAS), aims to promote international scientific cooperation among researchers from over 180 countries, including Algeria.

Targeted at young researchers who have completed a master's or doctoral degree, the scholarships cover research stays, doctoral studies, or post-doctoral research. Eligible institutions include Swiss cantonal universities, universities of applied sciences, the two federal institutes of technology (ETH Zurich and EPFL), and various specialized research institutes. Funding durations typically range from 12 months for research stays to up to 36 months for doctoral programs.

Applications must be submitted online via the GO ESKAS platform between August 20 and November 30, 2026. To be eligible for research scholarships, candidates must secure an academic supervisor in Switzerland. Selection is based on academic background, the quality of the research or artistic project, and the potential for future scientific cooperation. Results are expected to be announced by the end of May.
