Switzerland plans transit toll for travelers crossing the country

The Swiss Parliament has approved plans to introduce a transit toll for vehicles traveling through Switzerland from one neighboring country to another without making a significant stay. This measure specifically targets north-south traffic, such as travelers from Germany heading toward Italy who use Swiss routes as an alternative to the heavily congested Brenner Pass.

The Swiss National Council approved the introduction of the fee in March, following a unanimous decision by the Council of States. The Swiss Federal Council is now tasked with developing the specific implementation details, which may include constitutional amendments. While exact pricing has not been finalized, reports suggest a potential fee of approximately 21 Swiss francs per transit.

The primary objective of the new toll is to reduce the burden on Swiss roads and improve traffic management across the Alpine axes.
