Switzerland police launch burglary prevention campaign amid rising crime

Swiss police forces and the Swiss Crime Prevention (SKP) agency have launched a national prevention campaign titled ‘Einbruch in Sicht?’ (Burglary in Sight?) following an increase in theft statistics. The campaign aims to raise public awareness regarding burglary risks, particularly during the high-risk period between September and March when twilight burglaries are most frequent.

In the Canton of Vaud, burglaries rose by 8.8 percent in 2025, with 7,093 recorded cases compared to 6,517 in 2024. Nationally, Switzerland recorded 46,636 burglaries and surreptitious thefts in 2025, up from 46,070 the previous year. This marks the third consecutive year that national figures have exceeded pre-pandemic levels.

In the Canton of Jura, burglaries increased to 320 cases in 2025. Notably, burglaries targeting villas and single-family homes in Jura saw a sharp rise of over 35 percent compared to 2024.

As part of the awareness efforts, police in Vaud will hold information sessions in various shopping centers on November 14, 2026, to distribute prevention materials and advise citizens on securing properties.
