Switzerland raises 2026 economic growth forecast
Swiss economic authorities and international observers have significantly raised growth forecasts for the Swiss economy. The State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) increased its 2026 GDP growth projection to 1.7 percent, up from a previous estimate of 0.9 percent. This revision follows strong economic performance in the second quarter, driven largely by the chemical and pharmaceutical industries.
SECO maintained its 2027 growth forecast at 1.6 percent and kept its inflation projections steady at 0.6 percent for both 2026 and 2027. While the outlook is positive, officials warned of risks including high energy prices, geopolitical tensions, and trade uncertainties involving the United States.
The OECD provided an even more optimistic outlook for 2026, forecasting GDP growth of 2.0 percent. However, the OECD slightly lowered its 2027 growth projection to 1.4 percent. The organization noted that while domestic demand remains a strong driver, global economic uncertainty and trade-related challenges continue to pose risks to export-oriented sectors.
