Based on 2024 estimates from The Economist, global wealth rankings vary significantly depending on the economic metric used: nominal GDP, purchasing power parity (PPP), or economic output adjusted for working hours.
In terms of nominal GDP per capita, Switzerland leads the world at $103,670, followed by Singapore ($90,674) and Norway ($86,810). The United States ranks fourth with $85,810.
When adjusting for purchasing power parity (PPP) to account for local price levels, Singapore takes the top position at $150,689 per capita. Macau and Qatar follow in second and third place, respectively. Switzerland drops to fifth in this category, while the United States ranks seventh.
When economic output is adjusted for purchasing power and compared against global average working hours, Norway emerges as the wealthiest nation with $114,804. Qatar, Denmark, and Belgium follow in the top four. Guyana showed a notable shift, rising from 38th in nominal income to 9th when PPP is applied.
