Switzerland to digitize administration and adopt open-source software by 2027

Switzerland is advancing major digital transformation initiatives within its public administration. The Swiss Federal Administration has announced plans to implement an open-source workplace solution for thousands of employees by the end of 2027. This follows a successful feasibility study, known as ‘PoC BOSS’, which tested the ‘Opendesk’ software. While the study confirmed the solution is generally suitable for administrative requirements, technical limitations were noted regarding large-scale video conferencing.

Simultaneously, the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) is launching the EasyGov 2.0 project to digitize approximately 400 administrative processes for businesses by 2027. The contract for this 12-year project, valued at up to 51 million CHF, has been awarded to adesso Schweiz AG. The modernized platform is expected to go live in autumn 2027, initially supporting 63 digital government services.
