Switzerland wage trends: Basel-Stadt minimum wage increase and national salary projections

The canton of Basel-Stadt has announced that its minimum wage will increase from 22.20 to 22.50 Swiss francs gross per hour, effective January 1, 2027. This adjustment follows the annual development of the mixed index, which accounts for inflation and wage trends in Switzerland.

On a national level, the Federal Statistical Office (OFS) reports that signatories of major collective labor agreements in Switzerland have agreed to an average effective wage increase of 0.5% and a 0.8% increase in minimum wages for 2026. While nominal wages are rising, real wages are expected to remain stagnant due to a projected inflation rate of 0.6% for the same year.

The 0.5% increase in effective wages is distributed between individual increases (0.3%) and collective increases (0.2%). Sector-specific data shows a 0.2% increase in the secondary sector and a 0.8% increase in the tertiary sector. Specific growth was noted in transport and storage (+1.2%) and financial/insurance activities (+1.0%).
