Switzerland weather: Heatwave followed by sharp temperature drop and storms

Switzerland is set to experience a significant weather shift following a period of high temperatures. Initially, a high-pressure area over Central Europe will bring sunny and dry conditions, with temperatures reaching up to 30 degrees Celsius in various regions, including West Switzerland and the Engadin.

By Tuesday, temperatures are expected to peak at approximately 32 degrees Celsius. However, this heat will be followed by a sharp weather change starting Tuesday evening and continuing into Wednesday. A cold front approaching from France is expected to trigger heavy thunderstorms, rain, and strong gusts, potentially including storm-force winds, particularly on the northern side of the Alps.

This transition will result in a substantial temperature drop. In German-speaking Switzerland, daytime highs are projected to fall from 32 degrees Celsius on Tuesday to around 19 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, representing a decrease of up to 13 degrees.
