SWOFON advocates for increased agricultural funding for women farmers
The Small-Scale Women Farmers Organization in Nigeria (SWOFON) is campaigning for increased budgetary allocations and better resource access to bolster food security through gender-responsive agricultural policies.
In Anambra State, SWOFON leadership is calling for stronger public investment and accountability to ensure that women farmers' priorities are reflected in government budgets and community-level services. This follows an impact assessment examining the group’s role in budget advocacy and resource access between 2019 and 2025.
In Niger State, the organization is urging the government to address insecurity, inadequate funding, and a lack of gender-friendly machinery. Representatives highlighted that women farmers face significant constraints, including limited access to land, finance, storage facilities like silos, and timely agricultural inputs such as fertilizer and improved seeds. The group is advocating for deliberate inclusion in annual agricultural budgets to ensure specific resources are allocated to women beneficiaries.
