Sword of Saint Michael the Archangel to visit Paraguay

The sword of Saint Michael the Archangel, housed in the Basilica Sanctuary of Monte Sant'Angelo in Puglia, Italy, will be transported to Paraguay this coming October. This marks the first time the religious relic will leave Italy to be hosted in another country.

The initiative is a joint effort between the Embassy of Paraguay to the Holy See, the Archdiocese of Asunción, and the Sanctuary Basilica of Saint Michael in Gargano. The visit coincides with the 50th anniversary of the arrival of the Michaelite fathers in Paraguay.

A formal consecration ceremony is scheduled for Friday, October 9, at 7:00 PM at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Asunción. The event is expected to be attended by President Santiago Peña, First Lady Leticia Ocampos, and various religious and civil authorities.
