SWR broadcasting council to include first queer representatives

The Südwestrundfunk (SWR) broadcasting council will include queer representation for the first time when it begins its new term at the end of September. Following the creation of a dedicated seat for LSBTIAQ* individuals in the new SWR state treaty, the LSVD+ association has appointed representatives to serve until 2031.

Janka Kluge, a long-time activist and author from Stuttgart, and Janboris Ann-Kathrin Rätz, a moderator and artist from Mainz, will jointly hold the seat. This joint appointment reflects SWR's status as a dual-state institution serving both Baden-Württemberg and Rhineland-Palatinate.

Representatives from LSVD+ stated that the goal is to ensure queer perspectives are firmly anchored in the region and integrated into programming. They emphasized that increased visibility in public media can help reduce prejudice and ensure that queer topics are presented in a nuanced and respectful manner, moving beyond stereotypes and polarization.
