Sydney Catholic Archdiocese ordains three priests, honors papal awardees

On 8 August, St Mary’s Cathedral in Sydney will ordain three deacons—Lucas Golab, Peter Van Khuông Tran and Stephen Howard—as priests for the Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney. Golab, originally from Poland, and Tran, raised in a devout Catholic family, spoke of long‑term discernment and pastoral formation. Howard, a former UNSW student, described how campus ministry, a conference in Chicago and service with the Missionaries of Charity in Kolkata shaped his vocation.

Earlier, on 29 July, Archbishop Anthony Fisher presented papal awards at St Mary’s Cathedral House. Michael King was made a Knight of the Order of St Sylvester for his work as the Priests’ Retirement Care Coordinator, overseeing housing and welfare for about 65 retired priests. Dr Sandra Lynch received the title of Dame of the Order of St Gregory the Great for her contributions to Catholic ethics and scholarship as the founding director of the Institute for Ethics and Society at the University of Notre Dame Australia.
