Tim Wedlock, Australian insurance leader, killed in Nashville crash
Timothy Wedlock, 58, the executive chairman of AEI Insurance Broking Group in North Sydney, died after being struck by a vehicle in Nashville, Tennessee, on 1 August 2026. The 87‑year‑old driver, Thomas Cahill, ran a red light at the Broadway and 4th Avenue intersection, injuring three other pedestrians. Cahill, his 90‑year‑old wife and her caregiver were hospitalized in stable condition.
Wedlock had spent 39 years with AEI, building it into one of Australia’s most respected broking groups. He served as president and fellow of the National Insurance Brokers Association (NIBA), received multiple industry awards—including the NSW Qualified Professional Insurance Broker of the Year (2004, 2009) and the 2024 Austbrokers Frank Earl Award—and was honoured by the Australian Trucking Association with the Don Watson Memorial Award in 2014. Colleagues described him as a “legend” and a mentor, with AEI managing director Noel Kelly writing that Wedlock “gave his time freely… we have lost a leader and a mate.” Road Freight NSW and the Gordon Rugby Club also issued tributes.
