Sydney Kings defeat Cairns Taipans to start NBL title defence

The Sydney Kings launched their NBL title defence with a 111-90 victory over the Cairns Taipans at Afterpay Arena. Last season's grand final MVP, Kendric Davis, led the Kings with 26 points and six assists. Xavier Cooks contributed 18 points, while seven different Kings players scored in double digits.

Despite an early 14-8 lead by the Cairns Taipans, driven by Keanu Pinder's 27 points, the Kings regained control. Sydney established a lead by halftime and pulled away in the third quarter following a 13-2 run. Jack McVeigh was limited to seven points for Cairns.

Off the court, Kendric Davis has drawn attention for his outspoken confidence and willingness to embrace a 'villain' role within the league. Davis recently stated that while he desires success, team achievements are his primary focus over individual accolades.
