Sydney motorway toll cuts announced after NSW‑Transurban deal

The New South Wales government and toll‑road operator Transurban have agreed to cut tolls on four Sydney motorways. From July next year, tolls on the Lane Cove Tunnel and longer trips on the M2 will be reduced by 10 %, while the M7 distance‑based cap will also fall 10 % from January 2028. When the Western Harbour Tunnel opens in 2028, the Cross City Tunnel toll will be cut by 20 %.

Motorcyclist charges on all Sydney motorways will be halved, and heavy‑vehicle tolls will rise to 3.15 times the rate for cars, funding new truck‑relief schemes. Two‑way tolling will be introduced on the Eastern Distributor, and future toll increases for the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Tunnel will be limited to 3.25 % instead of the previously planned 4 %.

Premier Chris Minns said the agreement delivers a “modest reduction” for motorists ahead of the state election, building on a permanent weekly toll cap that was recently lowered to $50. The deal follows two years of negotiations and a government‑commissioned review led by former competition watchdog chairman Allan Fels.
