Sydney police arrest suspect in Auburn kebab shop shooting

Police have arrested a 31-year-old man in connection with a daylight shooting at a kebab shop in Auburn, Western Sydney, which occurred over a year ago on June 16, 2025. The suspect was taken into custody in Narwee on Friday.

During the incident, two masked gunmen entered the eatery and fired multiple shots. The attack targeted three individuals, including 26-year-old Samimjan Azari, who was reportedly the intended target. Victims included a 25-year-old man shot in the face, a 26-year-old man shot in the shoulder and arm, and a 47-year-old woman who was shot four times in the torso. While all victims have been released from the hospital, the woman and the 25-year-old man are expected to face long-term complications from their injuries.

Detective Superintendent Jason Box stated that the investigation was “protracted and complex,” taking 14 months to secure sufficient evidence. The arrested man faces charges including three counts of shooting with intent to murder, as well as offenses involving firearms, ammunition, and stolen vehicles. Police identified the second gunman, who had fled to Thailand and subsequently died in a motor vehicle accident there.
