Auburn police investigate newborn baby found in rubbish bin

NSW Police have launched an investigation after the body of a newborn baby boy was discovered in a rubbish bin on Harrow Road in Auburn, Sydney, on Monday morning. The discovery was made by a resident of an apartment block around 11:20 am.

Acting Commander Darren Sly stated that it is believed the infant may have been in the bin for up to 36 hours, though it is currently too early to determine if the baby was born alive. A crime scene was established at the location, and residents of the building were interviewed by detectives.

Authorities have expressed “serious concerns” for the welfare of the baby’s mother and are urgently appealing for her to come forward and seek medical attention. Police noted that while an investigation is underway, taking action against the mother is not currently a police priority. Investigators are seeking witnesses and requesting any dashcam or mobile phone footage from the area to assist with the inquiry.
