Sydney police investigate shooting of 11-year-old boy in Norwest

An 11-year-old boy remains in critical condition on life support after being shot in the face and neck at a residence in Norwest, northwest Sydney. The incident occurred around 5 p.m. on Monday at a unit on Fairway Drive.

Police are investigating the circumstances of the shooting, including whether it was an accidental discharge or linked to organized crime. While Superintendent Naomi Moore stated there was initially no information suggesting links to organized crime, investigators are probing potential connections between the boy’s family and the Sydney underworld. The residence of the boy’s father was reportedly the target of a drive-by shooting last year.

Five people were present in the unit during the shooting and were uninjured, but authorities report a lack of cooperation from the adults involved. One 18-year-old man has been charged with concealing a serious indictable offense, while two other men were arrested and released pending further inquiries. No firearms were registered to the property, and none of the individuals present held gun licenses.

New South Wales Premier Chris Minns described the event as an “incredibly distressing situation” and a “tragic reminder” of the dangers posed by firearms.
