Sydney private school fees projected to reach $800,000

Rising tuition fees for independent schools in Sydney could see the total cost of a 13-year education reach $800,000 by the end of the next decade, assuming an annual growth rate of 5 per cent.

The King’s School in North Parramatta recently released its 2027 fees, with Year 12 tuition increasing by 4.8 per cent to exceed $50,000, excluding additional levies for technology and lunch. Other institutions, such as Scots, are already charging approximately $52,000 for Years 7 to 10.

School administrators attribute these hikes to rising teacher wages, cybersecurity requirements, and campus upgrades. Under new enterprise agreements, some schools are expected to pay teachers $150,000 or more next year. Richard Holden, an economist at the University of New South Wales, noted that a tight labor market for teachers and the demand for high-quality facilities and energy are significant cost drivers. Additionally, parental demand for private education is being fueled by concerns regarding the impact of artificial intelligence on future professional job markets.
