Sydney Roosters lodge complaint over ground announcer advice
Sydney Roosters officials lodged a complaint with the NRL ground manager after former Penrith Panthers player Josh Mansour provided unsolicited advice to Panthers players during a game at CommBank Stadium.
Mansour, acting as the ground announcer, reportedly shouted encouragement toward players including winger Tom Jenkins. While NRL rules dictate that only trainers may pass coaching messages during play stoppages, an NRL official noted that Mansour was being “over-exuberant and encouraging” rather than tactical and ceased his actions when requested.
Mansour described the incident as “playing it for laughs” and stated he was simply calling out things like a fan would. Penrith winger Tom Jenkins expressed appreciation for the feedback from the experienced former player, noting that the Roosters may have complained because their team appeared to be struggling during the match.
