Sydney Rowing Club faces cancellations due to wharf closure

The Sydney Rowing Club is experiencing booking cancellations and operational uncertainty following the short-notice closure of the nearby Abbotsford Wharf. Transport for NSW closed the wharf to perform essential repairs, including a gangway replacement, with service expected to remain suspended until December 18.

General manager Peter Grosvenor stated that the closure threatens the venue’s busiest trading period, noting that the club had anticipated up to 35,000 customers over the festive season. The club requested that the works be postponed until after January, but the request was denied.

Transport for NSW apologized for the inconvenience, citing the necessity of the repairs. Commuters and visitors have been redirected to alternative bus routes on Great North Road and shuttle services to Chiswick Wharf.
