Sydney shooting: Man killed in targeted attack in Punchbowl

A 32-year-old man, identified as boxing coach Louis Meehan, was shot dead in a targeted attack in the car park of the Punchbowl Community Centre in southwest Sydney on Wednesday evening.

NSW Police described the incident as a “callous act” and a “targeted attack.” While authorities have not officially confirmed a link to organized crime, Meehan was known to police. Reports indicate Meehan had previously displayed merchandise associated with the Alameddine crime gang, including clothing from the Merrylands-based group Proper 60 and the drug-trafficking operation Ready 4 War.

Witnesses reported seeing a vehicle speeding away from the scene following multiple gunshots. Acting Superintendent Dean Johnstone noted that while the attack was targeted, the location in a public car park potentially endangered innocent community members. Investigations are ongoing as police comb the area for evidence.
