Sydney Southwest Metro to open October 30
The Sydney Southwest Metro is scheduled to begin service at 4:31am on Friday, October 30. The new 66-kilometre driverless metro line replaces the 130-year-old T3 Bankstown Line, offering 50 per cent more passenger capacity.
The service will run from Tallawong in the north-west through the CBD to Bankstown. Frequency is set at every four minutes during peak hours, every five minutes during the day, and every 10 minutes during evenings and weekends. The upgrade is expected to significantly reduce travel times, including a 24-minute saving for trips from Lakemba to Victoria Cross.
Infrastructure improvements include station refurbishments, the installation of 360 platform screen doors, 790 CCTV cameras, and over 1,300 gap fillers. All Southwest stations are now lift accessible. To support the new metro, the NSW Government is also expanding bus services in the Inner West, adding 190 weekly trips to Routes 413 and 418 to strengthen connections to the metro network.
