Sydney Swans defeat Brisbane Lions to return to AFLW top four

The Sydney Swans secured a 37-23 victory over the Brisbane Lions at Henson Park, moving back into the AFLW top four with a 6-1 record. The win keeps Sydney's minor premiership hopes alive and places them ahead of Carlton in the standings.

Despite a strong performance from Brisbane's Isabel Dawes, who recorded 24 disposals and six clearances, the Lions fell to a 2-5 record. Brisbane held a narrow lead at the three-quarter break, but Sydney responded immediately in the final term. Cynthia Hamilton scored two crucial goals, including a strike just 30 seconds into the fourth quarter, while Tanya Kennedy added a goal to seal the 14-point win.

Sydney's Ally Morphett also contributed significantly with 20 disposals and 28 hitouts. For Brisbane, the loss increases the pressure to secure a finals berth, as they face the possibility of missing the post-season for the first time since 2019.
