Sydney Swans gear up for post‑bye return of key players
Midfielder Errol Gulden and four other Sydney Swans regulars are set to resume playing after the team's upcoming bye. Gulden, a dual All‑Australian, has missed action since round two due to a shoulder reconstruction, while Tom McCartin returns from concussion. Forward Tom Papley (calf), defender Dane Rampe (calf) and Braeden Campbell (shin stress fracture) are also nearing fitness.
The Swans sit second on the AFL ladder, just behind Fremantle on percentage after a narrow 14.9 (93) to 13.12 (90) victory over Port Adelaide on Saturday. Coach Dean Cox praised the team's ladder position entering the break and highlighted the blend of young talent and experienced players that has driven a dozen wins and only two defeats so far. He noted the bye offers an opportunity to review defensive consistency and make incremental improvements before a challenging second‑half schedule against Brisbane, Western Bulldogs, Fremantle and Adelaide.
