Sydney Sweeney and Marilyn Monroe confirmed as distant relatives

Genealogical research from MyHeritage has confirmed that actress Sydney Sweeney and Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe are blood relatives. The study identifies the two as ninth cousins, once removed.

The lineage traces back nearly four centuries to Ezra Perry, an early English settler in Sandwich, Massachusetts, who lived between approximately 1625 and 1689. The connection was established by following the paternal lines of both women: Sweeney through her father, Steven Sweeney, and Monroe through her biological father, Charles Stanley Gifford.

The discovery provides a genetic context to the long-standing comparisons between the two actresses, who have frequently been linked by fans and media due to their similar aesthetics and Old Hollywood glamour. Researchers at MyHeritage noted that the investigation was prompted by the frequent cultural parallels drawn between the two stars.
