Sydney to host International Counter Terrorism Forum
Police leaders from Australia, the Five Eyes intelligence alliance, and Southeast Asia will meet in Sydney for the International Counter Terrorism Forum. The gathering aims to strengthen relationships between overseas agencies and exchange experiences to prevent future violence.
Discussions will focus on lessons learned from the Bondi massacre and recent overseas attacks targeting Jewish communities. Participants will also examine the spread of extremist ideologies via social media and the rise of ‘violence-as-a-service,’ where individuals are recruited to carry out attacks on behalf of others.
NSW Police Deputy Commissioner David Hudson noted that the forum provides an opportunity to get ahead of threats that may travel across national borders. The meeting follows a series of international incidents, including attacks in Washington, London, and Michigan.
