Sydney train services disrupted by T1 North Shore Line wiring fault

A wiring fault on Sydney’s T1 North Shore Line caused significant disruptions for commuters during the Tuesday morning peak. The issue, identified as a failure in the cutaway mechanism causing overhead wires to sag south of Chatswood Station, led to the cancellation of city-bound services between Gordon and North Sydney.

Repair crews have been working on the site since Monday night. Sydney Trains chief executive Matt Longland stated that once repairs are finished, testing must be conducted before re-energizing the lines to ensure safety. While some repairs were expected to conclude by mid-morning, the full restoration of services was projected to continue through the morning peak.

To mitigate the impact, limited bus services were deployed between Gordon and Chatswood, where passengers were advised to use the Sydney Metro to continue toward the city. The disruption also caused knock-on effects for the T9 Northern Line and led to a surge in Uber fares in Sydney’s northern suburbs.
