Sydney Trains to implement timetable changes on key lines
Sydney Trains will implement a major timetable shake-up on November 15, affecting the T4 Eastern Suburbs and Illawarra and the South Coast lines. These lines account for approximately 250,000 daily passengers, representing a quarter of the network's patronage.
The changes aim to increase service frequency and reduce bottlenecks by providing dedicated express tracks for the T4 and South Coast lines between Arncliffe and Central Station. On the T4 line, morning peak city-bound services will increase to every four minutes from Sutherland and every three minutes from Hurstville.
However, passengers will experience longer journey times due to increased stops and track reconfigurations. Travel times for stations including Waterfall, Heathcote, Engadine, and Loftus are expected to increase by up to 14 minutes during peak periods. Additionally, T4 services will now stop at Sydenham to facilitate transfers to the M1 metro line, while St Peters and Erskineville will be integrated into the T4 line.
