Sydney water polo warm-ups: Hungary loses to Australia and Greece

In a preparation tournament for the World Cup Finals in Sydney, the Hungarian men's water polo team defeated the host nation Australia 20‑11 on July 17. Hungary took control after a strong start, with forward Gergő Fekete scoring four goals, and will face Croatia in the quarter‑finals of the Super Final.

A day earlier, Greece’s men’s team beat Hungary 22‑16 in another warm‑up game. Greece opened with a 5‑0 run, held a 12‑9 lead at halftime and finished comfortably ahead. The Greek squad, coached by Thodoris Vlachos, will meet Japan on Friday before facing Montenegro in the quarter‑finals of the World Cup Finals.

Both matches were part of the same international preparation event ahead of the Sydney World Cup water‑polo Super Final, featuring teams from Hungary, Australia, Greece, Japan, and others.
