Syed Akbaruddin appointed to RBI Central Board
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of former diplomat Syed Akbaruddin to the Central Board of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). Akbaruddin, a 1985-batch Indian Foreign Service officer and former Permanent Representative to the United Nations, will serve as a part-time, non-official director for a four-year term.
Joining Akbaruddin on the board are Annie George Mathew, a former Special Secretary of Expenditure in the Ministry of Finance, and Janmejaya Kumar Sinha, Chairman of Boston Consulting Group (BCG) India. These appointments aim to integrate expertise in diplomacy, public finance, economic policy, and business strategy into the bank’s oversight body. The total number of directors on the Central Board now stands at 14.
