Asim Waqar leaves AIMIM to join Congress
Syed Asim Waqar, the national spokesperson for the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), has resigned from the party to join the Indian National Congress. The move occurred at the Congress headquarters in New Delhi in the presence of senior leaders, including Uttar Pradesh Congress president Ajay Rai and MP Imran Pratapgarhi.
Waqar cited strategic disagreements as the reason for his departure, claiming that while AIMIM publicly opposes the BJP, its actions on the ground often result in fighting opposition forces rather than the BJP itself. He stated his intention to join the Congress to more effectively challenge the BJP's ideology and aim for a secular government.
This exit follows another blow to AIMIM in Uttar Pradesh, where Dr. Abdul Mannan recently left the party to join the Samajwadi Party. AIMIM leader Waris Pathan responded to the resignation by stating that individual departures would not affect the party's strength or its commitment to its members and objectives.
