Syensqo and UPO advance PFAS removal technologies in Italy
Syensqo, the chemical company in Spinetta Marengo, and the University of Piemonte Orientale (UPO) have concluded a joint PhD project on new adsorbent materials for efficiently removing PFAS from industrial water. Engineer Andrea Bortoli defended his thesis on the topic, detailing laboratory screening of activated carbon, zeolites and synthetic sorbents, followed by successful pilot tests in the plant’s water‑treatment system.
The collaboration, organized under the RisPA (Research and Development Centre for Environmental Restoration and Protection) joint lab, will now move to a small‑scale pilot plant headed by doctoral student Enrico Trombetta. The next phase will focus on testing sorbents derived from vegetable waste, aiming for solutions that are both economically and environmentally sustainable.
